Pros & Cons of Avali Beach
Pros:
- Location is great. Close enough to town, but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful.
- The beach is beautiful! It has soft sand and clear water, as well as plenty of shade from the trees that line it. There are also some small rocks on one end of the beach where you can jump into the water if you want something more exciting than swimming in flat water. The waves were pretty big when we were there (June), which makes it fun for kids or adults who like surfing-type activities during their vacation 😉
- Avali Beach has its own restaurant/bar with great food at fair prices; they even have WiFi so you can check email if needed without having to go somewhere else first 🙂
Cons:
- As mentioned above, this area tends to get very crowded during high season (July & August) so we recommend visiting during off-peak times instead – April was great!
“Walking down the hill towards Avali beach, I’m in awe of the sight. The sun shining on a crystal clear sea. Behind me is an amazing cliff face covered in trees and wildlife. Ahead is a beach of white sand and turquoise water. This is the view that i get every morning from my balcony at the hotel Akti, which is perched on top of a cliff overlooking this incredible beach. When my girlfriend suggested we go to Greece and I saw the price i was hesitant but decided to go for it. After spending two weeks here I’m glad I did because it’s an amazing location!”

Overview of Avali Beach
Avali Beach is a small beach, but it’s still a good size for swimming, sunbathing and snorkeling. There are showers on the beach if you need to rinse off before heading into town for lunch or dinner at one of your favorite restaurants.
Avali is located in Karterados village which has many shops and cafes within walking distance of its main square.
Renting
You can rent beach umbrellas, loungers and windsurfing boards on the beach for a small charge. This is a useful service if you don’t have your own equipment with you, or if it’s been raining heavily and your umbrella has blown away (again).
There are showers on the beach
The Avali Beach Hotel has showers available in the hotel, on the beach and at a cafe. Showers are also available in the toilets of restaurants and bars around the island.
There’s also a restaurant right on the beach as well as several cafes and restaurants nearby in your village of Karterados
The beach restaurant is called “Souvlaki Souvla” and it has a great view of the water from its terrace seating area. The food is good and reasonably priced, especially compared with other places we visited on our trip. My husband ordered grilled octopus with potatoes, which he said was delicious; I ordered chicken souvlaki with rice pilaf (which came with salad) and it was also very good!
The restaurant is popular with locals as well as tourists alike; everyone seemed to be having fun there! Its same like on Pefkoulia beach or Kathisma beach.
