FAQ

What is the best time to visit?

The best time to visit this beach is during the summer months. You will get better weather and you’ll be able to enjoy yourself more if you’re not freezing cold or sweating buckets.

What are the best times of day to go?

If you want to get lots of sun, then go during midday (12pm-3pm). If you don’t mind getting less sun but still want a good view, then go in the morning (8am-11am) or evening (4pm-6pm). The worst time is probably early afternoon because there won’t be much shade from trees unless they planted some recently which could lead them getting chopped down by vandals who hate nature.

If you’ve ever been to Driftwood Beach, Georgia, you’ll have noticed that the shoreline is littered with huge piles of driftwood. This isn’t just a coincidence; the beach has earned its name because of this distinct feature.

Driftwood can be used for many things: furniture (elevated tables), art projects (sculptures), as fire starter for campfires/bonfires…the possibilities are endless!

You can walk along the shore and admire all the driftwood.

  • Tent or hammock – There are no hotels or other accommodations nearby; however, if it’s not too cold outside (around 50 degrees Fahrenheit), then sleeping under the stars in your tent or hammock will be an amazing experience! Be sure to bring plenty of food and water so that you don’t have any trouble staying hydrated during the night.
  • Flashlight – Even though there aren’t any lights out here at night time yet they do come eventually so make sure that if possible bring something bright enough so as not miss them when they do come on later during those hours between midnight until 6am when all shops close down until 9am opening time again which means unless someone else comes along before then then…

It’s especially popular in summer and winter solstice when the sun is setting in just the right place. You can use St. Catherines Beach too.

Parking at Driftwood beach

To get to Driftwood Beach you’ll need to park at Great Dunes Park and walk about a mile down beach access road 64.

The walk is pretty easy and you can do it in less than 30 minutes, but if you have kids or you’re carrying lots of stuff with you, it could take longer. Once on the beach itself, there are no signs indicating where Driftwood Beach begins or ends (at least as far as I could see). The first time we visited there were also no bathrooms available (though I’m told these have since been installed).

If you’re visiting northern Florida, it’s a great day trip to make from Saint Augustine or Jacksonville. It only takes about 2 hours to get there by car and about an hour by plane.

You can even stay overnight at the Driftwood Beach Campground if you want to spend more time exploring this beautiful area of Georgia!
