Pros & Cons of Playa La Barqueta
Pros:
- The beach itself is beautiful. It has white sand and is clean, clear water. The water was very warm when we visited in mid-February (85 degrees Fahrenheit).
- There are many restaurants and bars on the beach, making it easy to find something to eat or drink. Most places had a good selection of food and drinks at reasonable prices. We preferred eating at the local restaurants rather than ordering food from our hotel room because they offered more authentic Panamanian cuisine such as arroz con pollo (rice with chicken).
Cons:
- The sand flies are vicious! If you want some peace and quiet during your vacation, forget about it here
- there’s always some loud person nearby playing music or chatting loudly with friends while they eat lunch while their kids run around screaming all day long.

The beach is located in a cove, so you won’t have to worry about waves or currents. And if you’re worried about getting sunburned, there are umbrellas for shade and cabanas available for rent. If you don’t want to go into the water, there are plenty of activities on land as well, such as volleyball and beach soccer or you can try activity on Starfish beach.
The beach is located just a few miles away from the airport, so it’s easy to get there by taxi. It’s also within walking distance of the main road in La Barqueta, which means that you can easily get food or drinks from one of the local restaurants if you don’t want to spend money on renting umbrellas or cabanas.
It is a very nice beach, with calm waters for swimming and snorkeling. There are some fish to see, coral, and trees that provide shade. You can also see monkeys, parrots and other animals in the trees around the beach.
In addition to being beautiful there are many things to do around this area: you can take a walk on one of the trails nearby; go horseback riding; hire a boat tour or scuba diving excursion through your hostel or hotel; visit the caves by boat (but only if you have someone who knows how to navigate treacherous waters). If you do need to leave items unattended, it’s best not to do so on or near public beaches or tourist areas where there is a high concentration of people, as thieves love to prey on tourists and their belongings!
If you absolutely need to leave your valuables unattended in a public place, make sure they are locked away in the trunk or glove compartment of your car. If possible, leave them with someone you trust or at least within sight.

La Barqueta is a great beach if you want to go somewhere relaxing that won’t be too crowded. It has plenty of trees for shade, the water is calm and clean, and there are very few people. I’ve been here many times before, but I never get tired of its beauty!
Make sure that your valuables are safe at all times. If you are going to be swimming, make sure your belongings are not left in view of others. Thieves have been known to watch people go into the water, and then steal their items while they’re swimming or sunbathing. Barqueta is one of my favorite beaches. It’s located on the north coast, not too far from Cartagena in Central america best beaches area. The water here is calm and clean, and there are plenty of trees for shade.
