Plage du Prado

Plage du Prado
Plage du Prado

Plage du Prado is one of the most popular beaches in Marseille, and it’s easy to see why. The beach is a family friendly destination with calm waters and lots of opportunities for sunbathing. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby if you want to grab lunch or dinner while you’re enjoying the beach, or if you want to bring your own food, there are picnic tables set up along the shore where you can set up camp for a day or two. It’s also a great place for windsurfing!

On Plage du Prado, you’ll find sand that glistens golden under the sun as well as smooth rocks that offer little resistance when you walk across them. You’ll also find lifeguards on duty throughout most hours of operation so there’s no need worry about getting into trouble when swimming here or you can try Plage de Saint-Estève

The beach has both sand and rocky areas

Prado beach is a great destination for anyone looking to relax, but be aware that it’s a mixed sand and rock beach. While there are plenty of spots to lay out on the sand and enjoy the sea breeze, you’ll want to bring water shoes if you want to venture over the rocks for better snorkeling. There are also a few vendors selling snacks and drinks who can set up shop wherever you’re comfortable sitting. If you’re not interested in making friends with your neighbors, consider bringing along some towels or blankets so that everyone has their space.

The water at Prado Beach is not as clear as at some of the other beaches in France, but it is still clean and safe. The water is a bit murky and you will have to keep an eye out for people who might be swimming there. There’s no lifeguard on duty, so you should swim near a lifeguard tower if you’re not comfortable being in open water.

There are lifeguards on duty during the summer months

The beach has lifeguards on duty during the summer months, and signs warn visitors of dangerous currents. However, it’s important to note that there is no sign of any lifeguards at all during our visit in September. Some people swim in the water but it looks like they are aware of the current warnings at least. The nearest lifeguard post is 50 meters away from where we sit down on the sand (the next one is 100 meters away). Lifeguards have radios so they can call for help if someone needs help or gets into trouble while swimming in these waters; however, they don’t seem very busy and we don’t see anyone coming out of their posts except when we first arrive at 2 pm.

If you want to lounge in comfort and not have to deal with sand or rocks, you can rent a sunbed from one of the beach cafes. You’ll need some Euros to do this, but it’s definitely worth it if you don’t want to carry the extra weight of your own chair around all day. The chairs are not free, but they are reasonably priced — usually between 2 and 5 euros per hour depending on how busy the beach is. Free chairs you cau use at Prophet’s Beach.
