Review of Playa de Atacames
Playa de Atacames is a located on the Pacific coast of Ecuador. It’s about 30 minutes south of Manta, which can be reached by bus or taxi from Tena (the capital city of Pacific coast). There are several beaches within walking distance from the town center, but some are better than others. The best ones are Playa Punta Tejada and Playa San Juanillo–they’re both long stretches of sand with clear water and soft white sand that make for great swimming or lounging around all day long!
The weather in Playa de Atacames is generally warm year-round; however, it does get cooler at night during winter months (June through September). During this time frame you might want to bring along some warmer clothes like sweaters or jackets if you plan on spending time outside after dark because it gets chilly pretty fast once sunset rolls around each evening!
FAQ
How long does it take to get there from Manta?
It takes about one hour by car or bus from Manta airport if you’re heading north along coastal highway 101–but plan for traffic jams! You could also take an inland route via Tunuyan or Canoa Quebrada if you want more scenery along the way; these routes are slower though because they wind through towns instead of following a straight line across flat land like 101 does.
What are some good places to stay while visiting Playa de Atacames?
There are many hotels along Calle Principal or Avenida del Mar which offer rooms starting at $40 per night.
What beaches should I visit while staying in Playa de Atacames?
It depends on what kind of beach experience you want! There are several sandy beaches nearby including Punta Carretas Beach (about 10 minutes away), La Tortuga Beach (.5 km) and Salsa Brava (~1 km); however these aren’t great swimming spots because there aren’t any facilities nearby so bring your own towel when going here! If swimming isn’t important then check out Playa de Los Pocitos which has calm waters but no shade trees either…or if neither applies then try looking elsewhere around Ecuador too 🙂
What is the best time of year to visit?
The dry season runs from May through November, but it’s possible that you’ll have more sunshine and less rain during other months. The rainy season runs from December through April, with January being the wettest month on average. The temperature ranges between 25C and 30C throughout most of this period (though it can be hotter in some places).
Pros & Cons of Playa de Atacames
Pros:
- The beach is beautiful and quiet. There are not many people here, so it’s a great place to relax and enjoy the beach.
- There are also some nice restaurants along the shoreline that you can visit for lunch or dinner if you want something more than just seafood (but we recommend trying their delicious seafood dishes).
Cons:
- During high season Playa de Atacames is full of tourists from all over South America who come here just for vacationing purposes so if you’re looking for an isolated place then this isn’t going to be ideal… but if all your friends are coming along too then maybe give this place a shot!

The best thing about Atacames? The beaches! I visited Playa de Atacames twice during my trip–once with friends who came down from Quito (about 2 hours away), and once on my own so that I could relax by myself before meeting up with them later in the week for some snorkeling adventures at Isla de la Plata National Park (also known for its whale watching).

Drink lots of water and a sports drink like Gatorade or Powerade to replenish electrolytes. You should also drink 1 gallon (about 4 liters) of water per day. If you’re exercising, have some protein shakes post-workout to help your muscles recover faster. In the morning after waking up or before going out for the day, have a cup of coffee or tea with milk/creamer added; this will wake you up without giving you any caffeine jitters!
