- The water is warm, clear and shallow for swimming. There are palm trees here too! And even if you don’t like to swim in the ocean, there are pools nearby that are great for cooling off during those hot summer days.
- Lots of places to stay: If you’re not interested in camping while visiting Venezuela or just want something more luxurious than sleeping under the stars (although this would be pretty cool), there are many options for accommodations near Playa Mata Gorda including hotels, hostels, cabins, bungalows and even tree houses!

- Venezuela isn’t exactly known for its safety so it might not be wise for travelers who want to feel completely secure when exploring the country alone or as part of small groups without any guide/assistance from locals/companies who run tours here every day (such as us).

Playa Mata Gorda is known for its green waters and white sand beaches.
The water turns a distinctive shade of green because of the mangrove forests that are prevalent on the shoreline, while the sand is made up of millions of tiny shells that have been deposited over time. This means there’s not much space to walk along the beach, but it also gives you something interesting to look at in between dives or swimming trips into deeper waters.
The snorkeling is particularly good at Gorda, with plenty of marine life to be seen both above and below the waterline. The main attraction for most people will be the huge schools of fish that swim around in the shallows and along the shoreline, including parrotfish, angelfish, groupers and rays. The restaurants in Playa Mata Gorda
The restaurants in Playa Mata Gorda serve mostly seafood dishes. We only went to one of them, and it was pretty good. It was a small place with limited seating, but the food was inexpensive and very tasty. Much better restaurant are at Cayo Playuela.
We had a really pleasant time at Playa Mata Gorda. It was one of the nicest beaches we visited during our trip to Puerto Rico. The water was warm and clear, and there were lots of fish swimming around in it.
Parking
If you are not staying at Playa Mata Gorda, there is a parking lot at the entrance to the beach. There is also a small fee that must be paid when you enter the lot or park on public streets in Las Cumaraguas. Parking along these roads can be tricky because they do not have much space between cars and there are many pedestrians around. If you are planning on driving into Las Cumaraguas, we recommend doing so during daylight hours only, as this part of Venezuela has been known for its crime issues.

It’s about a 3-mile walk, or you can take a taxi or rent a scooter if you prefer.
There are many restaurants and bars in Las Cumaraguas, where you can enjoy fresh seafood and other local dishes. The beach isn’t as nice as Playa Mata Gorda, but it’s still worth checking out if you have time.
There are many different types of hotels in Las Cumaraguas, including some that have specific beach front locations. There are also plenty of restaurants and shops that can be found along the main road through this townIf you’re looking for a beach that’s quiet and less crowded, Playa Mata Gorda is the place to go. You’ll find plenty of shade from trees along the shoreline, which makes it easy to avoid getting sunburned. There are also some great restaurants and bars nearby if you feel like grabbing lunch or dinner while you’re there all of them are same like in South America.
There are fresh water lagoons surrounded by forests about 3 miles from Playa Mata Gorda. They have no swimming areas, but the water is very clear, and it’s possible to see fish swimming around in them.
There are two lagoons, so it’s possible to see how they differ. The lagoon on the left is more open and has a sandy bottom; the one on the right is surrounded by plants and trees that create a shaded area along with some open water.
Kitesurfing
Kitesurfing is a water sport that uses wind to propel you across the water. If you’re an adrenaline junkie and love the beach, kitesurfing is for you! It’s very similar to windsurfing; however, instead of riding a board across the water with your feet in the water, you fly high above it on a surfboard attached to a kite.
Kitesurfing can be very dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. The main issue is that when your kite goes up in flight, it pulls so hard that any inexperienced sailor will be pulled off his/her board into rough waters below.

It rains almost daily in the rainy season (April-September), which makes it difficult to get out and explore or visit nearby beaches because most roads are flooded with water. The best time to visit Playa Mata Gorda is during Venezuela’s winter months: October through December.
Renting Kayak
