Pros & Cons of Playa de Mompiche

Pros:

  • Great beach. Mompiche is known for its beautiful white sand and crystal clear water, which you can enjoy from your own private villa or at one of the many beach bars and restaurants along the shoreline.
  • Good food. There are several restaurants in town, but most visitors choose to eat at their vacation rental properties. In addition to being able to cook their own meals, many guests prefer this option because it allows them more flexibility when deciding what types of foods they want on their vacation–you’re not limited by what’s available at a restaurant!
  • Friendly people (most of them). The locals here are very friendly and welcoming; however, there have been reports from some travelers who say they felt unsafe after dark because there aren’t many lights or people outside after dark–so if you’re coming here late at night for dinner then make sure someone knows where exactly where are going beforehand just in case something happens .

“Playa de Mompiche is a beautiful beach town with calm waters, clear blue skies and few people. The beach is perfect for swimming or diving, and you’ll be among only a few depending on the time of year.”

Playa de Mompiche is a beach town in the province of Manabí on Ecuador’s coast. It’s popular with surfers and backpackers who want to escape the crowds and noise of bigger cities like Quito or Guayaquil or Playa De Cojimíes beach.

The only town in Manabí province with a beach, Playa de Mompiche has a laidback vibe that makes it feel more remote than it actually is–it’s only about an hour from Guayaquil and 45 minutes from Portoviejo (the capital). There are no hotels here; instead there are hostels, bed & breakfasts, campsites and guesthouses available for rent through Airbnb or similar websites if you want to stay overnight.

There are a few hotels and hostels in Mompiche, which can be found by walking down the main street. The San Joaquín Hotel has an outdoor pool and offers private rooms with AC or fans. The town is small enough that you can walk to most places from here, but if you want to go further out (for example, to Playa de Oro), it may be worth renting a car or taking a taxi.

The food is good but limited–you won’t find any fancy restaurants in Mompiche! Most people eat at home or go out for pizza or seafood dishes at one of two restaurants: La Bodega or El Galleon del Marisco (the latter being our favorite).

Scuba diving

Scuba diving is a popular activity in Playa de Mompiche. There are many dive sites near the town and there are several dive shops that can help you plan your trip. If you want to dive with a local operator, it’s best to arrange this before arriving in town as some of them only have room for their own guests on certain days of the week or month.

There are many restaurants and bars in Playa de Mompiche. The most popular one is called “La Langosta,” which means the lobster. This restaurant has great food, drinks, service and is very affordable. If you go there you must try their seafood soup! It’s delicious!

Yuca’s Resto-Bar is another good option if you want something casual but still tasty and affordable. They offer many options for vegetarians too which is always nice because sometimes when traveling abroad it can be hard to find vegetarian meals at restaurants (or even just vegetables!).

If you’re looking for something more fancy, there is a restaurant called “La Ballena Azul,” which means the blue whale. This place has an amazing seafood menu and great service. I highly recommend their tuna tartar!

The beach at Playa de Mompiche is beautiful

Playa de Mompiche is a small town with limited lodging and dining options. There are no luxuy hotels in Playa de Mompiche, so you’ll need to stay somewhere else (like Puerto López) if you want to be close by. The beach at Playa de Mompiche is beautiful, but it’s not the best place for swimming–the water tends toward murky browns rather than clear blues or greens. More info you can get on Google review.
